One economic parallel between the Indian Ocean Trade and the Silk Road was that both benefitted everyone. Wealth was attained by anybody who participated in commerce as a result of the two trading networks. Trade resulted in new ideas, methods, and technologies; no one was disadvantaged as a result of trade. Famine was introduced as a result of China's isolationism, technical developments stagnated, and China lost its role as a worldwide power.

Identify and explain one difference between long-distance trade in Asia and Africa from 1200 to 1450.

The modes of transportation were one distinction between the technologies utilized to expand commerce. People utilized and developed boats throughout the Indian Ocean Trade.  New types of ships known as junks and dhows were utilized to take advantage of monsoons, while the astrolabe and compass could assist with navigation at sea.

The Silk Road, on the other hand, was traveled by carts, which had little room for improvement.

Explain one consequence of long-distance trade in Europe or Oceania at this time that was different from that of Asia or Africa.

One of the consequences of long-distance commerce in Europe at the time was the introduction of Islam on the Silk Road, which changed the spiritual beliefs of people in Southeast Asia. (For example, throughout the ninth and tenth centuries, the Sailendra monarchy in central Java constructed Buddhist monuments and Hindu temples.)
