(BEFORE YOU READ: To help your studies, make sure to rewrite this information if you plan on using it <3 educational purposes only)
● Why do we need to take fingerprints and mugshots?
My answer:
As a booking officer, we take fingerprints and mugshots to keep record of the person that we are inspecting and to identify them. As we book people, it helps us know their identity, keep record of their crimes , and can go a long way leading into cases and such. It’s very important that we do this to not only keep it in their records but ours as well.
● Can you envision a time when fingerprinting and mugshots will become obsolete?
I believe that fingerprinting and mugshots will become obsolete when more moderate and easier ways are created and passed by the head of state / country. To explain, it would be more obsolete because it usually takes longer to analyze people and their records the old fashioned way. Although it’s good to keep records, I envision that our booking method will become more obsolete with more moderate technology!
(support your answer with factual information found in the reading and what you know
about technology)
● Can you think of any technological tools that could make the fingerprinting and/or
mugshot process faster or more reliable/accurate? (provide at least 2 technological
tools with supporting detail for answer)
As a booking officer who does fingerprinting and mugshots, a technological tool that can help increase paste and more recognition for prints would be a live scan machine! To explain, a live scan machine doesn’t use any ink which saves time and money. This machine is spreading around the country and is a very fast scanner that can analyze prints more clearly and keep record of previous scans!
Another technological tool that can make fingerprinting and mugshots more reliable would be a machine that takes people’s pictures when they go in for a mugshot. A machine that is designed to capture the individual , scan their identity, and bring up any previous records to give more reliable information to the police worldwide. This machine would be more reliable, faster in analyzing, and decrease time in case of an emergency.
