I guess "varies directly" means that if, for example, you take x=6 you get y=13 or for x=4 y is 12.
Assuming this, you get:
[tex]x_1 = 5 \\ y_1 = 12 \\ y_2 = 30 \\ x_2 = ? \\ \\ x_2 - x_1 = y_2 - y_1 \\ x_2 = x_1 + y_2 - y_1 \\ x_2 = 5 + 30 - 12 \\ x_2 = 23[/tex]
