Why did the US Congress pass the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002?
By the start of the millennium, various accounting
by big businesses came to light. Consequently, investors lost their trust in
accounting process. To restore their confidence, this act was passed by the US Congress. The act looked into fraud of
misleading the investors and/or of non-disclosure of certain information that could have helped investors make informed choices.
