The Romans destroyed Jerusalem's Second Temple in 70. A significant proportion of the Jewish population could either be slaughtered or exiled. In Judea, which is now a region of Palestine, 25% of the Jewish population was eradicated and 10% was enslaved.

Vespasian was proclaimed Emperor and brought back to the Imperial City as a result of the ensuing chaos. Titus, his son, led the remaining military in the assault on Jerusalem. The Roman legions encircled the city and starts to gradually suffocate the Jewish stronghold.

The Jewish people rose up against the Roman Empire. Four years later, on August 30, 70 CE, Titus' Roman legions retook and destructed much of Jerusalem and the Second Temple.
