If a table is in- 2nf and does not include transitive dependencies, which are situation where one attribute that is not a key is reliant upon that attribute that is not an unique identifier, the table is in 3nf. The primary key may depend on one or maybe more non-prime characteristics to functionally predict further non- performing characteristics in a table with 2nf, which is known as transitive dependency.
