The New Deal had reached its end by 1939.Many of the New Deal's programs or organizations gained notoriety thanks to their acronyms. For instance, the Civilian Conservation Corps was referred to as the CCC and the Works Progress Administration was referred to as the WPA. The programs of the New Deal were compared by many to alphabet soup. The lives of those affected by the events of the depression were temporarily made better by New Deal programs. Long-term, New Deal policies established a precedent for the federal government to be heavily involved in the social and economic life of the country.
