Using the resources provided below, gather information needed to respond to the 3 different prompts. It is good practice for all young people and adults to learn how to provide basic emergency care. The Red Cross provides guidance in three basic areas of care: First Aid, CPR, and AED. Through this activity, you will learn more about each of these services.

In the following scenarios, pretend you are a correctional officer at the Three Rivers federal correctional institution. Use the knowledge you have gained from your research and tell how you would need to react to the following scenarios in order to keep you and everyone else in the situation safe.

Scenario 1(First Aid): You are helping transport an inmate to a different facility and while waiting to get into the vehicle the inmate falls to the ground and begins to have a seizure. What do you do? Be sure to explain every step you should take in the order you should take it.

Scenario 2(First Aid/CPR): You are supervising lunch in the cafeteria and a fight breaks out. All inmates surround the 2 inmates who are fighting. One of the inmates gets hit over the head with a sharp object and begins to bleed profusely. The other inmate in the fight is taken to the ground by other correctional officers and hits his head on the ground and blacks out. What do you do? Explain in detail the steps you take to render safety and first aid to everyone involved.

Scenario 3 (First/Aid/CPR/AED): An inmate has been complaining of chest pain all day. You decide she needs to go to the infirmary. While walking her there she falls to her knees holding her chest complaining that she cannot breathe and her chest is heavy. She then stops breathing and falls to the floor. What do you do? Explain in detail the steps you take to render safety and first aid to everyone involved.
