It was quite similar to building a single film out of a number of discrete shots to choose one-shot films and arrange them into a 15-minute program for screen display. By his own admission, Porter was also influenced by other directors, particularly Georges Méliès, whose A Trip to the Moon (1902) he got to know well while copying it for Edison's unauthorized release in October of that year.
