During WWII, Oklahoma had 8 major camps and around 24 branch camps. During the war, Manhattan Construction Company of Tulsa finished more than a billion worth in hangers, shacks, airplane plants, as well as other military construction projects.
Over the years, the company has constructed numerous Oklahoma courts, banks, healthcare facilities, religious institutions, campus buildings, and multiple business facilities. Manhattan was the biggest construction company in Oklahoma at the turn of the century, and it was still owned by the Rooney family. The guardsmen of the 45th Infantry Division saw little action until 1941, when they were one of the first National Guard units enabled in World War II.
