'Themes' are characteristics of participants' accounts that characterize specific perceptions and/or experiences that the researcher considers relevant to the research question.
Thematic coding is a type of qualitative analysis in which passages of text or images are recorded or identified that are linked by a common theme or idea, allowing you to index the text into categories and thus establish a "framework of thematic ideas about it" (Gibbs 2007). Theme names should be descriptive and engaging (if possible). You describe the theme not only in terms of what it is about, but also in terms of what is interesting about it and why it is interesting. In the words of Braun and Clarke, you "define the essence of each theme." On November 25, 2022, it was revised.
