Seismic waves are waves or energy that produced by earthquake within the earth surface and move in different direction.
There are two types of seismic waves-
- Body waves
- Surface waves
Body waves are waves that are moving within earth surface, body waves are also of two types like primary waves and secondary waves.
Primary waves can pass through all states of matter like solid, liquid, gaseous and they are like sound waves which means particles moves in same way of movement of waves.
Secondary waves can only pass-through solid state and they are transverse waves which means particle moves perpendicular to movement of waves.
When body waves reach the earth's surface it named as surface waves, and they are more dangerous than body waves.
Surface waves are also types like love waves and Rayleigh waves and it causes huge impact either economically, socially etc.
