Amir retold the story because he wanted to prove that generalizations of people were very wrong as such things often do not take into account the uniqueness of all individuals. Amir was a young man of Indian descent who had come to America to discover the fact that many people prefer to keep to themselves because they tend to view people from other places with some form of stereotype.
The polish women were thought to be steelworkers while the polish women only enjoyed cooking vegetables. However, Amir told the story of the Polish woman whose father had been in the concentration camp. This opens his eyes to the fact that he had never heard anything reasonable about the experiences of the Polish people.
