Recessive condition in the genotype can only occur during homozygous state when both the alleles for the gene are recessive. Recessive alleles are the mutated version of the gene that are not able to produce any effect when present along with a dominant allele.

One of the alleles is able to show its effect while the other is not, in a heterozygous condition. Sometimes heterozygous trait can have a phenotype that is different from the dominant and recessive phenotype.
