When reading small print, the lens of our eye projects light onto the retina an area of closely packed photosensitive cells.
It happens that the lens of mammalian eyes focuses light by means of that substance which fills the back part of the eyes known as the vitreous humor, thereby supporting the retina with this. When this happens, the mammalian eye retina recieves an image which the cornea focuses through the lens and interpret the meaning of the message in the image by means of electrical impulses.
In conclusion, we can now confirm from the explanation given above that in order to understand what our sight it focusing when reading, it passes through the retina.
