32. Human activities continue to place strains on the environment. One of these strains is the loss of biodiversity. Explain what this problem is, and describe some ways that humans are involved in both the problem and the possible solutions. In your answer be sure to state: . the meaning of the term biodiversity • one negative effect on humans if biodiversity continues to be lost • one practice that could be used to preserve bio- diversity in New York State

Answer :

Biodiversity loss is the reduction of species in their natural environments or ecosystems that can be due to human activity or due to other biotic or non-biotic factors, such as natural selection, or geological phenomena, such as landslides, respectively.

Humans are responsible for this in many aspects, but also they can be part of the solution, as we can read in the question. A way we as humans are involved in the problem, but also in the solution is the industrial activity and how we can counter it, such as the livestock industry, and the automotive industry enhances global warming, which can be countered by reducing these practices and implementing environmental-friendly alternatives.

Following this, a negative effect of biodiversity loss can be the loss of ecological services, such as the water produced by plants in high mountains.

And finally, a practice that could be used in New York State to preserve biodiversity loss would be implementing laws that inhibit great industries to deforest forests, but also implementing practices such as talks and ecotourism that can help more people to know the importance of biodiversity (as we can see in the licensed image below).
