The Writing Assignment:
Use the notes you have made above to write a letter to a friend in another country (Canada) as though you were a person growing up in the 1930s.




Scaffold:
Paragraph 1: Describe your made up home and neighborhood in detail, using the information about the 1930s. Include lots of specific and interesting information about life at that time, so that the reader of your letter can visualize your environment.
Paragraph 2: Tell about your made up family using information that would fit a family in the 1930s. What types of activities do you enjoy as a family? What is your standard of living? How do your parents make a living?

Paragraph 3: Tell about your school and your friends, using what you have learned in your research about the 1930s. Describe your school, classes and teachers. Who are your friends, and what are some activities you enjoy doing together?

Paragraph 4: Describe what's going on in the world around you, using the information from your research about the 1930s. What's happening in the nation politically and economically? Tell about popular fashions, music, radio programs, and other interesting facts.
