A metaphor compares two things
METAPHOR
Geraldo and his dad parked in a sea of cars at the
church. The sun was a blood orange sinking lower in the sky,
and the church's spaghetti dinner was nearly at its end.
The church was holding the fundraiser dinner to install
a new playground. The current playground's wooden bridge
was a porcupine, covered in splinters. The metal slides were
magnets for sunlight, so they were almost impossible to use
on warm days. Geraldo had helped advertise the dinner and
was eager to support the cause. He had begged his dad to
rush home from work so they could make it to the dinner on
time.
"It looks like the troops showed up to support the
playground," Geraldo's dad said as they walked into the
church hall. The parishioners were sardines, squished
ogether on benches and happily slurping heaps of spaghetti.
"This place is a zoo!" Geraldo agreed happily. "The
inner is a success!"
