Answer :

In an attempt to regain the support of the people, the catholic church leaders would review and change some of the church policies which became known as the  Counter-Reformation.

What is Counter-Reformation?

The Catholic Church's response to the Protestant Reformation was known as the Counter-Reformation (1517-1648). Although it is typically dated from the Trent Council in 1545 to the end of the Great Turkish War in 1699, other academics believe it continued after that and is still going on now. Despite the fact that efforts to correct alleged injustices and mistakes in the Church existed before the Protestant Reformation, they were never as successful as the Counter-Reformation. Through the missionary efforts of the Jesuits, the Counter-Reformation was immensely successful in establishing the Church in South America and Asia. However, it was unable to completely eradicate Protestants from Europe.
