Grendel’s mother and Wealhtheow are the only two female characters in Beowulf. In what ways are their motivations similar (be sure to look back at Wealhtheow's speeches to Hrothgar and Beowulf in the previous section we read. Now, look at the diction (specific words) used to describe each character. List some of those words and discuss how they help create two very different beings. Finally, what is the significance of these differences and similarities?
