To study the relationship between depression in elderly and their risk of developing dementia. Methods: A sample of 114 elderly people free from dementia was collected and they were grouped into “depressed” and “Not depressed” and then they were followed up for 2 years and then their mental status was evaluated. Results: 64 were classified as “depressed” and 50 as “not depressed”. 53% of those were depressed developed dementia compared to 20% of those who were not depressed.
