Oxbow lake is associated with active erosion.
When the river reaches the plains, it meanders in a series of wide bends that are known as bends. Over time, the meander loops begin to isolate the river and create isolated lakes known as ox-bow lakes. A new channel eventually forms through the little patch of land at the narrow end of the meander due to erosion and deposition. The river follows a direct route. The river bend is still visible in the form of oxbow lakes.
