The Median
To calculate the median, in this example, you will need the same set of numbers as above. Only this time, you are going to order the numbers from the least to the greatest. If you do this, this is what you get:

1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9

We know from the example above that there are 21 numbers in this data set. So, we will look for the middle number, which is 11. There are 10 numbers to the left and 10 numbers to the right. So, the median for this data set is the number 4.
