Unofficially, Labor Day signals the end of summer and the last day when wearing WHITE is accepted.
"No White After Labor Day" is the official Labor Day dress code. In America, it actually exists. People are expected to start dressing in darker colors as soon as summer ends, according to an unwritten fashion rule.
It's interesting that this Labor Day is not in May. The first of May is not recognized as International Workers' Day in the US. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 after a bill was passed by the US Congress and was set for the first Monday in September.
Probably as a result of the Haymarket Square Riot, which was a horrific act they committed against workers.
On May 1st, otherwise known as International Workers' Day, dozens of other nations around the globe celebrate the labor movement. Not in September.
