Answer :

Oxygen atoms are used to make water molecules but this does not mean  that oxygen, o2, and water, h2o, have similar properties

The  difference between hydrogen and oxygen is that the hydrogen is a very light gas whereas the oxygen is a heavy gas because oxygen has higher molecular weight and hydrogen have very low molecular weight . Hydrogen gas is highly combustible in nature but it does not support combustion.

Whereas oxygen gas  makes combustion possible. Gain of hydrogen as considered as reduction where gain of oxygen is called oxidation.

And when these two gases combine together, they no longer possess their individual properties, because they form a molecule due to chemical reaction due to which breaking and forming of bond occur due to which completely different product is been made from products.

Properties of water are implied due to hydrogen bond and not because of hydrogen and oxygen gases. This is why O2 and H20 have different properties

Oxygen gas is two oxygen atoms bonded together, O2. Water, is one oxygen atom bonded to two different hydrogen atoms, H2O.  Oxygen is a  gas but water is liquid.
