The reason for this requirement would be because kids/teens would need to know how to get the cost of items. how to sell products in a good price. Buying groceries in a fair price as well and of course purchasing items for the best price possible. Not only that but  engineering also needs alot of math, and some type of calculation goes in science, angles and precise measurings as well. Area and perimeter when constructing buildings, houses and ect. Math is used for nearly everything so yes I agree with this requirements.
