Many students enjoy a warm cup of coffee to help get the day
started. Later, they may grab an energy drink to fix a midafternoon
slump. Drinking a Monster or Red Bull energy drink can bring a
welcome buzz to many teens, but the harmful long term consequences
of these beverages are simply too numerous and frightening to ignore.
Due to the health risks that accompany these drinks, many
communities from Los Angeles to Chicago have considered laws
banning the sale of energy drinks for people under the age of eighteen.
Some believe that the law will benefit teens by keeping them healthy
while others believe that being too strict infringes on their rights;
however, opponents are incorrect. A law banning the sale of energy
drinks to people under the age of eighteen should be passed because
they are too expensive for the average teen to consume on a daily basis
and the chemicals contained in them are poisoning our youth.
