II.
We spoke to the husband first. He was at the scene when we arrived, sitting on a step on the front
porch, his head buried in his hands. When he looked up, I noticed his eyes were red and swollen. He
was wearing work clothes, a blue shirt and khaki pants. Being the lead detective, I spoke to him first. I
should have realized it immediately. I initially only picked up on a few things, a missing wedding ring, a
sideways glance when I asked if Rachel had been acting normally lately. Then there were the empty
spaces in the closet, the solitary pink toothbrush in the bathroom. It took me longer than it should have
to make the connection.
Based on what you underlined/highlighted, what can you infer?
