Two objects are going towards each other. One has half the mass of the other, although they both have the same energy. If the one with greater mass weighs 2kg, and has 50 joules of energy, a) what will be the velocity of both the masses after the collision? (this is a linear elastic collision)
b) If instead the lower mass had 100 joules of energy and the greater mass still had 50 joules, what would be the new velocities of the masses before and after the collision?
(For any calculations, the larger mass is going in the negative direction, while the smaller mass is going in the positive direction)
