LESSON
5-2 Properties of Quadratic Functions in Standard Form
Identify the axis of symmetry for each function.
1.
f(x)= 3(x + 7)² - 4
2. g(x)=x²- 10x + 9
4. j(x)=(x - 5)² - 2 5. k(x) = x² + 10
2
7. n(x) = x² + 9x + 12 8. p(x) = (x - 4)²
3. h(x) = (x - 1)² + 8
6. m(x) = 5x² + 15x - 17
9. q(x) = 4x² + 11
Complete each word problem.

A record label uses the function a(t) =
- 90t² + 8100t to model the sales of a new release.
The number of albums sold is a function of time (t days). On which day were the maximum
number of albums sold? What was the number of albums on this day?

11. An airline sells a 3 day vacation package. Sales from this package can be modeled by the
equation s(p) = 40p² + 32000p where p is the price of the vacation package. If the price is
set too high, the package won't sell, and if the price is set too low, the airline will lose profit. At
what price (p) should the package be sold at so that they will make the most money? What is
the profit the airline makes from the vacation package?
For each function, find the maximum or minimum value. Then state the domain and range.
14. h(x) = 3x² + 18x + 7
12. f(x) = 8(x + 7)² - 4
13. g(x)=x²- 10x + 9
