1. Draw a cluster diagram of the topics and subtopics you are considering for your poem. Use the diagram to narrow your topic down until you find a subject suitable for a poem.




2. Describe all the rules of the form you plan to use for your poem.




3. Create at least two poetic devices about the subject of your poem. For example, write a simile that compares your subject to something else or write an example of onomatopoeia that might help the reader hear what you are describing. Feel free to use these poetic devices when you write your poem, or come up with new ones at that point.




4. Describe the mood and tone you want to set in your poem. As you describe the mood and tone, think about the words you will use to create those feelings.




5. Now put your thoughts and plans together and write your poem. When you finish, read it over and make sure it fulfills all the requirements of the assignment.
