In this unit, you've learned about the history of Asia from 1000 to 1500 A.D. This includes the history of China, Japan, and the Southeast Asian states of Champa, Angkor, and Dai Viet. You should now be able to describe the social, political, religious, economic, and cultural characteristics of each.

In Europe, the period in-between 1000-1500 A.D was the Middle and Late Middle Ages. Like Europe, Japan had a feudal society, whereby a weak government led to a system of needed protection in times of conflict. Feudalism developed in both areas as a result of the lack of a strong government. You will find similarities and differences (including the feudal systems) between these two worlds. China, on the other hand, experienced the dynasties of the Mongols and Genghis Kahn. In southwest Asia, places like Champa, Angkor, and Dai Viet experienced conflict and warfare.

All of these civilizations have similarities and differences, even though they had different cultures.

For this project, you'll be asked to apply this knowledge as you make comparisons between Asia and Europe.

OBJECTIVES
Compare and contrast the characteristics of Europe, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia during the time period 1000 to 1500 A.D.
Complete a comparison matrix.
When you have completed this project, you'll have learned that:

There were differences and similarities between various cultures.
Directions
Complete the comparison matrix. In addition to the three listed characteristics, you must select two other characteristics of your choice for the comparison. Below the matrix, describe the types of leadership in Europe, China, Japan and Southeast Asia. Explain how these different leaderships affected the civilizations at that time.
