According to symbolic interactionists (and feminists), the human capital theory of gender inequality is incomplete in suggesting that gender inequality is a simple product of people's choices because it: O does not take into account how socialization (such as that developed from children's books, among other things) influences the choices of females and males O is inherently sexist O suggests that class-based gender inequalities cannot be decreased because of nurture O is insufficiently aware of how class interacts with gender to create ongoing problems of inequality
