At a national education conference, high school counselors were asked to volunteer to evaluate student transcripts for readiness for Advanced Placement courses. Volunteers were entered into a drawing to win 1 of 6 gift cards for completing the 10 minute survey. The transcripts had certain characteristics (such as Borderline Academic, Bad Behavior) and either no name, a neutral name, or a name suggesting certain gender and racial categories. Combinations of names and characteristics were randomized into profiles. The order of profiles viewed by counselors was randomized. Within the Strong Academic, Good Behavior group, two transcripts had identical grades, coursework, and teacher comments with the only difference being the student name. 120 out of 152 counselors recommended "Deja Jackson" for AP Calculus and 152 out of 152 counselors recommended "Hannah Douglas" for AP Calculus. According to the researchers, "in the case of no bias, we would expect no significant difference in the likelihood of a particular student profile being recommended for the AP Calculus course." Using a method from our course, determine if there is a significant difference. Upload a file with the details of your work, and a conclusion.
