There are several ways that you, as the administrator, and your team can identify risks associated with your health care facility or an individual department. These methods include: brainstorming, interviewing members of the department, performing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis, and/or diagramming.
First, choose a specific type of health care facility or specific department within a specific facility for whom you will perform a risk identification analysis. For example, choose the nurses’ station in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) or a pediatrician’s office.
Second, perform a risk identification analysis using one of the methods listed above to determine what environmental factors may present a risk to staff members and/or patients. Be certain to be very detailed in your analysis.
