Night Final Essay: Theme
Authors communicate their universal truths through the stories they tell. These perceptions about life or human nature are universal, so that all people in all walks of life can understand them and relate to them. The powerful Holocaust memoir, Night shows Elie Wiesel's traumatic and life-changing experiences that bring him face to face with death, challenge him to examine his relationship with his father, and change him and his faith forever. In our study we have discussed 3 primary themes in the book:
1. Human dignity in the face of inhuman cruelty
2. Self-preservation v. family commitment
3. Emotional and spiritual death
Task: Write an essay that examines how Wiesel crafts ONE of his themes from the book.
Your essay should include at least 2 specific examples of how Wiesel shows your chosen theme and your analysis or commentary about it.
