The matchup between the freshmen of Franklin High School and the eighth graders of Jackson Middle School was heated. The freshmen were confident that they were smarter and wiser than their younger peers. The eighth graders felt they had studied harder for the academic tournament. The competition was usually reserved for high school teams, but the Jackson Middle School students had impressed a committee of judges with their determination and effort. They had beaten three other high school teams to get to the finals, which happened to be against Franklin, the local high school where these eighth graders would soon be freshmen themselves. Franklin High School had never made it to the finals of the tournament. Getting this far was already a big win for their school, and the student body let them know how important it was. Right now, Franklin High School was up by two points with three questions to go. Amanda was their star, but the final category was about art history, and neither she-nor any of her teammates--were confident with the category. It just so happened that Javier for Jackson Middle School loved art and had just begun an Internet course on art history. It helped Jackson Middle School tie the score on the first two questions. It came down to the final question, but neither team knew the answer. The judges declared a tie, making the freshmen upset and the middle school team elated.
