ANALYSIS
In general, nonmetals are on the
the
side of the periodic table, metals are on
separating the
side of the periodic table, with the
two sides between them.
Effective Nuclear Charge: Valence electrons do not receive the full attractive force of the
nuclear charge because the core electrons
some of it from the valence electrons.
As you go down any group on the Periodic Table, the size of the atoms
because the outermost electron is in a higher energy level and therefore further away.
As you go from left to right across any period on the Periodic Table, the size of the atoms
because the effective nuclear charge
which pulls the
negatively charged valence electrons closer to the positively charged nucleus.
