Today you watched the short documentary called "Boatlift" about the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent evacuation of Manhattan. This is an often unheard story of how just under 500,000 people were evacuated from Manhattan in nine hours on September 11, 2001. It's a different perspective of a sad day in American history, but it's also a wonderful narrative of average people doing extraordinary things.

Please answer the following questions:

You were not born when 9/11 happened. Use your technology/ talk to your parents or guardians to research how the attacks changed the American cultural landscape?

2. One of the most moving parts of the video is the narrative of average people doing extraordinary things. In fact, one of the boat captains says, "Never go through life saying, 'I should have.' If you want to do something, you do it." Think about a time in your life when you may have been an average person doing an extraordinary thing. What was that like? If you don't think you have a story, consider a time when you perpetrated a random act of kindness, etc.

3. How can we use the lessons from the documentary towards our current project? Has there ever been a point when a New Tech student was part of something extraordinary (or random, fun, new, different, exciting)? How has that event helped to create our culture?
