Thousands of Chinese men and women immigrated to North America during the
last half the 19th century, many of them to work on the construction of American
railroads. They also settled in cities and worked in agriculture and mining. This
map shows the distribution, by state, of Chinese-born people in 1900. Complete
the description column in the following table, showing how the five themes of
