The fourth aspect of acting which rules all the other aspects to a certain extent is Discipline.
Stanislavsky advised actors to approach their work on a scene by asking themselves four questions: who they are as characters, where they are physically located, what they are doing there (action and intention), and what happened before they arrived (given circumstances). The answers to these queries give the actor the background information required for his performance, assisting him in setting the scenario. The actor's role must be subjected to a more thorough analysis when approaching the play as a whole; he must look for the play's spine, or kernel, as well as its division into distinct sections or units of actions.
