In the fifth chapter of the Eight Chapters, Maimonides
explains what the character of the life of a proper human
being must be. Several arts and sciences perfect the
various parts of the individual, body and soul, so as to
allow him to pursue that final end that is the true purpose of
a genuinely human life. What are these various parts of the
individual and the arts and sciences that perfect these parts?
Where do these arts and sciences find their origin? What is
the final end or proper purpose of a human being that these
various arts and sciences permit, as means and conditions,
to come to be?
