Logistic Growth versus
Exponential Growth
Missouri Ponds
Largemouth bass are predators found in many
Missouri ponds. This species grows quickly, is
aggressive, and is well-suited for many pond
environments, where reproduction is facilitated.
Largemouth bass eat a variety of foods, including fish,
insects, frogs, and crayfish. Additionally, they have been
known to eat mice, moles, snakes, leeches, and baby
ducklings. When there is sufficient food, they generally
grow quickly. Largemouth bass can live for up to 15
years, but generally live for between 6 to 10 years.
What would happen to
the largemouth bass
population if there was a
drastic decline in the
populations of ducks and
leeches?
A. The largemouth bass population
would completely disappear from
the lake.
B. As they are not primary food
sources and at the top of the food
chain, the impact would be minimal.
C. The largemouth bass population
would rapidly increase.
