Unit 2 Assignment: Mood, Tone, and Style Synthesis Writing

You will create two charts as a pre-writing exercise. Then, using these charts, you will write a synthesis paragraph comparing the two passages below in terms of author's choices.

Instructions: In the two passages below, create a Mood & Tone Chart of positive and negative words (like the Comparison Chart here). Then, complete a Style Chart (like the study guide activity for 2.6) for each passage, analyzing the two authors' rhetorical choices in terms of diction, sentence structure, point of view, rhetorical appeals, and literary conventions. Download the worksheet below and use it. If you can't open the RTF doc., review the PDF version and recreate it in an application of your choice. Finally, you will submit one paragraph, synthesizing the content in both pre-writing charts to write a comparison/contrast analysis of the two authors' use of language.
