The study that I chose is the Havasupai Indian Tribe study (1989), the purpose of the study was to find out whythe incidence of diabetes was increasing in their community. The participants of the research included 650poverty-stricken participants. The methodology used in the study consisted of DNA samples taken from theparticipants. The study results concluded that test samples that were used to draw blood for type 2 diabeteswere also used for nondiabetic-related genetic studies but failed to find a genetic link with type 2 diabetesInformed consent by Arizona State violated Havasupal's tribe because their blood was used for studiesunrelated to their primary research and no consent was provided to Arizona State University to do so. It was anunethical decision, blood samples taken from tribe members that were primarily used to test type 2 diabeteswere destroyed and or used to testfor the testing of inbreeding, population migration and schizophrenia Ifhad conducted the study, I would have made sure to have additional informed consent for all samples that Iwas testing. I would have used cross-sectional study that involved dietary, environmental, physical activity.smoking alcohol use, and genetic testing in my research1. Which of the internal validity threats apply to the study (see Chapter 10 & beginning ofChapter 11)? Explain why/how Informed consent was violated, by using their bloodsamples for unrelated studies they did not agree to2. What are the potential internal validity threats in one-group, pretest/posttest designs?Briefly describe each The 6 potential internal validity threats in one group werematuration threats, history threats, regression threats, attrition threats, testing threats, and instrumentation threats• Do any of these threats apply to the study? Be specific• How could these threats have been avoided?3. What are the 3 potential internal validity threats that can affect any study? Brieflydescribe each The three potential internal validitythreats (observer bias, demand characteristics, and placebo effects) potentiallyapply to any study• Do any of these threats apply to the study? Be specific• How could these threats have been avoided?
