Write an accurate summary of the fictional text that is below. Include all the elements of a good summary.

“The Ransom of Red Chief” is a humorous short story written by O. Henry in 1907. Two small-time crooks need money for a real-estate con they’ve planned, so they decide to kidnap the young son of Ebenezer Dorset, the richest man in the little town of Summit, and hold him for ransom. The child, Johnny, treats his “abduction” as an adventure, names himself Red Chief, and torments the crooks, Bill and Sam, with his rowdy make-believe play. Sam, the story’s narrator, delivers a ransom note to Dorset demanding $1,000 for Johnny, but Dorset counters with an offer to take his son back if the crooks will pay him $250. The plot ends with a twist when Bill and Sam decide to take the deal and get far away from the town before Johnny does real harm to them.
