Vignette Rubric: Vignette Rubric-1.docx
Gem Draft Directions:
After completing the revision steps in the "Vignette Up Draft" assignment, we are going to polish up our
narratives and submit a "gem draft." One thing we are going to polish up is our verb choice. Use the steps
below to revise your verbs, making them more precise and, therefore, more vivid.
1. Circle all "be" verbs in your vignette.
2. Consider each one-Could it be revised with an action verb that shapes more impactful descriptive
detail? If not, move onto the next sentence. (Sometimes we need "be" verbs.) Highlight any verb you
change.
3. Challenge: Use a participle phrase to combine sentences (or simply add a detail) to get rid of the "be"
verb.
4. Post a "gem draft" (a.k.a. final draft) here when done. Make sure your gem draft has a title, and is in
Times New Roman font, size 12.
Note: Be sure to keep verb tense consistent throughout your narrative:
Note: If you earned a 0 for your gem draft because you had your phone out during class, you must also
submit a signed note from a parent or guardian stating that you spent at least 30 minutes on the above
polishing steps to recover credit.
