1. On separate sheets of paper, summarize the three stories you have read. Title each
story and include the significant facts of each story. Write 2-3 paragraphs for each story.
2.
Despite differences in age, what did Krystyna, Lili and Alexander have in common?
3.
How did each child attempt to cope with his or her circumstances and the problems he
or she faced?
4. Does being hidden away from one's family make a difference in how each child coped?
5. What do you think was crucial to the survival of each child? Discuss all three.
6. Although these stories are about children in extreme circumstances, many of the
attitudes and behaviors discussed have some relevance to how students "problem
solve" in general. Write 1-2 full pages about "what works for you" and what behaviors
and attitudes have contributed to your own successes and failures.
