UNIT 3 ACTIVITY 2
Cumulative Project: Using Software Effectively
Required Materials
Two of the following:
Word processing software
Spreadsheet software
Presentation software
Image editing software
Microphone (internal or external)
Even though you’re waiting for your investors to provide the funding for your new specialized software, you’ve still got work to do! It’s time to get your new employees trained on basic software use so they will be able to hit the ground running. To do this, you will create a training video to walk them through several software tasks.
Step 1: Choose Two Software Programs to Demonstrate
Depending on the company you’ve started, your team will be using software in different ways. So first, choose two of the following softwares to demonstrate in your training video, based on which two softwares will be most helpful for the work your company does:
Word processing software
Spreadsheet software
Presentation software
Image editing software
Step 2: Prepare for Your Training Video
Set up your computer so it is ready to go for the training video. This means making sure your microphone works and reviewing how to screen record using your specific operating system:
Windows instructions
Mac instructions (using QuickTime Player, which should be installed on your Mac)
Chromebook instructions
Step 3: Record Your Training Video
It’s show time! In your training video, be sure to discuss and/or demonstrate the following:
Install the two software programs you chose
Use at least two file types (PPT, DOC, JPEG, etc.)
Manage files (create, name, organize, copy, move, and delete files)
Back up files
During the demonstration, be sure to:
Describe your actions step-by-step
Explain the purpose of the different file types
Explain how files are named in operating systems
Describe the importance of backing up data and the strategies to use in backing up data
Step 4: Save and Submit
To complete this activity, save and submit your training video.
