UNIT 3 ACTIVITY 1
Cumulative Project: What Software Does My Company Need?
Required Materials
Presentation software
In Units 1 and 2, you started making plans for your own small tech company. In this Unit, you will continue to prepare your company and its employees for success, and this starts with the software you’re using. We know that the software we use (and how well it meets our needs) can greatly impact how productive we are. It’s your job to make sure your team has the software they need to do their jobs.

So you will be asking investors for money to help purchase some specialized software that your company will need to get the job done. Then, you will create a slideshow to present your company’s software needs (and hopefully secure the funding to purchase the software!)

Step 1: Brainstorm Your Software Needs
If you had an unlimited budget, what software purchases would you make for your company? For our purposes, do NOT include the following types of software in this list:

Word processing software
Spreadsheet software
Presentation software
Instead, think about what tasks you need to do and what specialized software will help you do those things. List each type of software, including system and application software.

Step 2: Think About Other System Requirements
What system upgrades would need to take place based on your software purchases?

Step 3: Present Your Case to Your Investors
Create a slideshow to inform your investors of your specialized software requests. Your slideshow must include the following:

The software you are requesting
What type of software it is (system software, application software, etc.)
Whether the software is open-source or proprietary
Required system upgrades based on each software you have selected
The reasoning behind each software and upgrade request, and how the software will contribute to the overall business objectives (e.g., selling more inventory, improving customer service, etc.)
Your slideshow should include at least eight slides with at least one image and one to two sentences of text per slide.

Step 4: Save and Submit
To complete this activity, save and submit your slideshow.

TABLE Grading Rubric
Content
Full Credit
The student has included eight slides, with each slide presenting accurate and appropriate content.

Each slide has at least one image and one or two sentences of text.

It is evident that the student has done an excellent job of using information from the unit and online research to provide precise, relevant, and meaningful content on the required topics.

Partial Credit
The student has included six or seven slides, with each slide presenting mostly accurate and appropriate content.

Most of the slides have at least one image and one or two sentences of text.

It is evident that the student has done a decent job of using information from the unit and online research to provide somewhat accurate, mostly relevant, and fairly meaningful content on most of the required topics.

Little Credit
The student has included fewer than six slides.

The majority of slides lack images and/or the required one or two sentences.

The student’s presentation lacks much of the required information and does not make good use of the slides created to present this information.

It is evident that the student has not used enough information from the unit or online research to provide pertinent content on the required topics.
